YMCA Child Care receives holiday cheer!

The children at YMCA Child Care here at JSCC had amazing visitors today that provided gifts, their time and fun!  Programs Rise 4 R.E.A.L. Change and AVID planned a full day of providing community service. Four UVA students also came and provided their time and support. The Rise 4 R.E.A.L. Change organization helps students from a wide variety of backgrounds better understand where they are headed and ways to optimize high school years by concentrating on four main areas: Relationships, Empowerment, Accountability, and Leadership.

Gina Christ, founder of Rise 4 R.E.A.L. Change, joined forces with Phil Gahring this year who is the co-founder of AVID. Their mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. The students of both programs planned out today, December 15th as a day of giving to their community. They raised $200 for the Make-A-Wish foundation and headed out to serve the Ronald McDonald House after they left the YMCA Child Care.

The children at the YMCA really enjoyed the students’ presence. The room was filled with laughter and everyone was engaged. The students decided to give each of the preschoolers a gift to introduce themselves and provided a fun story time. Thank you to Rise 4 R.E.A.L. Change and AVID for coming and serving the YMCA preschoolers today. Tis’ the season for giving!
